The Experience

Before You Go

Weight & Fitness Check

Minimum weight is 100 lbs and participants should be in strong cardiovascular shape for a 1.5-hour uphill hike and technical rappel.

Wear quick-dry long pants

Long pants protect legs during rappel and on thorny or rooty trail sections; synthetic fabrics dry fast after the swim.

Expect slippery terrain

Rocks around the falls stay slick—use slow, deliberate footwork and the guide’s fixed lines when provided.

Hydrate and protect from bugs

Bring water and insect repellent; tropical humidity and mosquitoes are common on shaded rainforest approaches.

Local Knowledge

Hidden Gems

  • Swim in the lower emerald plunge pools—calmer and cooler than the main falls.
  • Wild Fig Bistro at the lodge serves local Belizean plates and is a convenient lunch stop after activities.

Wildlife

  • Howler monkeys
  • Tropical birds (motmots, toucans)

Conservation Note

Tours operate with a light-impact focus—stay on trails, avoid using soaps in pools, and support local guides who help protect forested access routes.

The Stann Creek area around Hopkins and Dangriga is home to Garifuna communities with deep cultural traditions; the rainforest trails also cross limestone geology shaped since the Cretaceous.

No—this is a guided rappel and staff provide instruction and all necessary safety equipment; however, comfort with heights and following safety direction is required.

Are there weight or age restrictions?

Participants must be at least 100 lbs; no children are allowed and teens or adults only—guides will confirm suitability prior to the activity.

What should I wear and bring?

Wear quick-dry long pants, closed-toe water shoes, a swimsuit, and bring insect repellent, sunscreen, and water; secure loose items or leave them at the lodge.
