The Experience

Before You Go

Bring cash for extras

Vendors and onsite operations may not accept cards; bring small bills for gratuities, fees, or rental mismatches.

Wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes

ATV trails are rough and cenote entry can be slippery—closed shoes protect your feet on both land and rock.

Use reef-safe sunscreen and insect repellent

Protect skin from sun and mosquitoes; apply before arrival and bring a small bottle to reapply after the cenote swim.

Follow weight & age limits

Drivers must be 16+; passenger weight limits apply—check rules before booking to avoid surprises at check-in.

Local Knowledge

Hidden Gems

  • Look for small, shaded freshwater pools near the main cenote—quiet spots for photos after the main swim.
  • Observe native birdlife at dawn or late afternoon along the ATV trail; motmots and herons are often seen.

Wildlife

  • motmot (colorful jungle bird)
  • agouti (small ground-dwelling mammal)

Conservation Note

Visitors should avoid sunscreen/contact with cenote water unless it’s reef-safe, pack out trash, and follow guide instructions—cenotes are fragile freshwater systems with limited buffering capacity.

Cenotes were central to Maya life and ritual; the Yucatán’s limestone bedrock created a network of underground rivers that shaped settlement and spiritual practice for millennia.
