The Experience

Before You Go

Wear closed-toe shoes

Ziplines and ATV sections require sturdy footwear; closed-toe shoes with good tread protect your feet on trails and when entering the cenote area.

Respect weight limits

Ziplines and horses have posted weight limits (286 lb for ziplines, 264 lb for horses); check with the operator before booking.

Use biodegradable sunscreen

Rinse or apply reef-safe, biodegradable sunscreen to minimize contaminants entering the cenote.

Bring a dry bag and spare clothes

You’ll get wet at the cenote; a dry bag keeps valuables safe and a change of clothes makes the return ride comfortable.

Local Knowledge

Hidden Gems

  • Smaller off-route cenote access points used by locals for calmer swims and cliff jumps
  • Short backcountry trails branching from the main route with native ceiba and gumbo-limbo trees

Wildlife

  • Green iguana
  • Tropical birds (motmot, parrot species)

Conservation Note

Cenote ecosystems are sensitive to chemicals and litter—operators encourage biodegradable products and minimal disturbance to preserve water clarity and aquatic life.

Cenotes are natural sinkholes formed by the Yucatán’s limestone bedrock and were central to Maya water supply and ritual life; many adventure sites sit on or near historic freshwater passages.
