The Experience

Before You Go

Hydrate before you arrive

Tropical heat and dust make pre-trip hydration essential—drink plenty of water and carry a small bottle for the day.

Bring closed-toe shoes

ATV terrain is rocky and can get slippery after rain; sturdy sneakers or light hiking shoes protect your feet.

Use biodegradable sunscreen

Cenote ecosystems are sensitive—apply reef-safe, biodegradable sunscreen and reapply only after swimming.

Know the limits and health warnings

Drivers must be 16+; ziplines cap at ~300 lb; not recommended for pregnant guests or those with serious back or heart conditions.

Local Knowledge

Hidden Gems

  • Cenote Calavera — a compact, less-crowded cenote near Tulum with striking light through small openings
  • Cenote Zacil-Ha — shallow swim areas and local food stalls make for a relaxed post-swim stop

Wildlife

  • Green iguana
  • Howler monkeys (audible in the morning)

Conservation Note

Operators typically ask guests to use biodegradable sunscreen, avoid littering, and pay a small preservation tax that supports local conservation and site maintenance.

Cenotes in the Yucatán are sinkholes formed by the region’s limestone karst system and were culturally significant to the Maya as freshwater sources and ritual sites.
