The Experience

Before You Go

Bring swimwear and a quick-dry towel

You’ll finish the active portion with a cenote swim — have dry clothes and a towel for the return trip.

Wear closed-toe shoes

ATVs and horseback sections require sturdy footwear to protect feet and improve control.

Carry small bills

Vendors and staff may accept only cash for tips, souvenirs, or locker rentals.

Know the health restrictions

Not recommended for pregnant guests or those with spinal/serious heart conditions; drivers must be 16+.

Local Knowledge

Hidden Gems

  • Look for small, shaded picnic spots near the cenote where local birds gather in the morning
  • Ask guides about nearby community-run artisan stalls for handmade hammocks and ceramics

Wildlife

  • Great kiskadee and other tropical passerines
  • Howler monkeys may be heard in the deeper canopy (sightings are occasional)

Conservation Note

Parks in the region emphasize limiting chemical sunscreens and managing visitor flow to protect cenote water quality and local flora; choose operators that follow local waste and water-protection practices.

The area sits on karst limestone once traversed by Classic-era Mayan traders; cenotes were sacred freshwater sources linked to ritual and daily life.
