The Experience

Before You Go

Closed-toe shoes only

Wear sturdy closed-toe shoes you don’t mind getting muddy—sandals are not allowed for the off-road track.

Bring biodegradable sunscreen & repellent

Protect skin without damaging the cenote—use reef-safe, biodegradable products and reapply after the ATV section.

Know the health & weight limits

Ziplines typically cap at ~270 lbs and ATVs ~300 lbs; avoid if pregnant or with recent spine/heart issues.

Pack a small dry bag

Keep your phone and valuables protected during the ride and the cenote swim—phones are usually restricted during activities.

Local Knowledge

Hidden Gems

  • Early-morning or late-afternoon canopy walk for quieter wildlife viewing
  • Smaller side caverns in cenote Lakuma with calmer water and better snorkeling visibility

Wildlife

  • Howler monkeys
  • Keel-billed toucans

Conservation Note

Operators encourage biodegradable products, limit group sizes, and ask visitors to avoid entering delicate cave formations to reduce impact on cenote ecosystems.

Cenotes like Lakuma were central to Maya life and ritual—freshwater sources and places of offering—and the area’s karst geology created a dense network of underground rivers.
