The Experience

Before You Go

Arrive hydrated and light

Bring a small water bottle and avoid heavy packs; the course is active and hydration helps maintain focus on technical lines.

Wear closed-toe shoes and long shorts or pants

No flip-flops or open-toed shoes; long shorts or lightweight pants protect against harness chafe and brush.

Note weight and health limits

Weight limits are 60–280 lbs; guests with spinal, heart, or pregnancy restrictions should not participate.

Choose timing to avoid heat or rain

Book morning or late-afternoon runs—dry-season mid-days can be hot and rainy-season afternoons bring downpours.

Local Knowledge

Hidden Gems

  • Sunset viewpoint from the final platform — quieter than beach viewpoints and great for coastal photos
  • Short interpretive trail behind basecamp with native dry-forest plants and interpretive signage

Wildlife

  • White-faced capuchin monkey
  • Howler monkey

Conservation Note

Respect marked trails and avoid feeding wildlife; many operators support local reforestation and water-use practices to minimize impacts on the dry-forest ecosystem.

The Papagayo Peninsula shifted from ranchland to resort development in the late 20th century; much of the remaining forest is seasonal dry-forest shaped by local volcanic soils and coastal microclimates.
