The Experience

Before You Go

Secure loose items

Use provided lockers and strap down cameras—ziplines and ATVs generate wind and vibration that can send phones and sunglasses flying.

Hydrate before and during

Bring a reusable water bottle and drink often—tropical heat plus activity is dehydrating even in shaded forest.

Wear closed-toe shoes

ATV trails are muddy and uneven; sturdy sneakers or light hiking shoes protect feet and improve control.

Sun and insect protection

Apply biodegradable sunscreen and bring a small repellent—sun is strong on exposed lines, while lower trails can be buggy.

Local Knowledge

Hidden Gems

  • Smaller, shallow cenote alcoves near the main swim area good for quiet photos
  • A short shaded trail loop near the ATV staging area where native bromeliads and orchids are visible up close

Wildlife

  • White-tailed deer
  • Tropical birds such as motmots and toucans

Conservation Note

Operators often emphasize no-trace practices and request biodegradable sunscreens to protect delicate cenote ecosystems; stick to designated trails to avoid compacting karst terrain.

The Yucatán’s cenotes were central to Maya cosmology and served as freshwater sources and ritual sites; the area around Tulum was part of coastal trade routes.

What to Bring

Closed-toe shoesEssential

Protects feet on ATVs and uneven paths and provides grip on wet platforms.

Quick-dry swimsuitEssential

Allows comfortable transition between ziplines and the cenote swim and dries quickly between activities.

Reusable water bottleEssential

Keeps you hydrated throughout the 5–6 hour excursion; many operators provide refill options.

Small dry bag or zip pouch

Keeps keys, cash and a phone safe from mud, spray and quick descents.

Common Questions

Is prior experience required for ziplines or rappelling?

No prior experience is necessary; guides provide instruction and safety equipment and the rappel is a short, guided descent.

Can children participate?

Children can join but activities have age/weight limits and infants cannot participate in adventurous elements; check operator policies for exact ages.

Are ATVs driven single or double?

ATVs can be shared for paired passengers; if the group booking results in an odd number, the operator may charge for a single ATV upgrade at check-in.

What happens if weather is bad?

Tours typically run rain or shine but heavy storms or safety concerns may cancel certain elements; check the 24-hour cancellation policy for refunds.
